M390 is a powder steel developed by Böhler-Uddeholm.
This high-performance powder steel continues to be used in numerous EDC knives and high-end kitchen knives, and its distinctive features include an excellent balance of wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and sharpness.
MicroClean
With a hardness of 60-62 HRC, M390's unique, third-generation powder metallurgy technology, known as "MicroClean,"
creates a high-purity, fine-grained structure that provides superior wear resistance and sharpness compared to MagnaCut knives.
Corrosion Resistance
One of the M390's distinctive features is its high corrosion resistance.
While this corrosion resistance does not match that of VANAX, it is at least corrosion-resistant enough to withstand saltwater environments with proper maintenance.
While ISZ KNIVES uses steels with excellent wear resistance and sharpness, M390 delivers superior performance in situations where corrosion resistance is more important.
Toughness
However, its toughness is not particularly high, falling slightly below that of D2, making it unsuitable for heavy use.
This makes it an ideal steel for folding knives and compact knives.
