B-NX is a new type of stainless steel for knives, "Nitro-X7," released in 2024 by Buderus, a German steel manufacturer.

It is a high-toughness balanced steel that combines the following existing stainless steels for blades:
High corrosion resistance, high toughness stainless steel, Nitro-B
High hardness, high wear resistance stainless steel, Nitro-V

It is manufactured using a melting process, yet it features a fine microstructure comparable to powder steel.
This achieves a high-level balance of toughness, wear resistance, and sharpness.

Hardness
The hardness is 62-65 HRC, the same hardness range as MagnaCut.
The overall toughness value significantly surpasses MagnaCut.

Toughness
The high toughness, which is a characteristic of Nitro-X7, is designed with toughness strength in both the vertical and horizontal directions. While many knife edges are prone to minute chipping during tasks such as carving and splitting wood, this stainless steel is strong in the lateral direction as well, providing strength from all angles.
Furthermore, Charpy impact tests conducted at an industrial testing center showed that the toughness values ​​of AEB-L (a stainless steel with toughness comparable to CPM 3V) at 61 HRC and Nitro-X7 at 62 HRC were equivalent.

Wear Resistance

The wear resistance of this stainless steel is based on the existing Nitro-V, with a slightly increased carbon content. While it doesn't quite match MagnaCut in terms of hardness (around 62 HRC), it exhibits good wear resistance.
However, if you desire wear resistance comparable to MagnaCut, it is possible to achieve high wear resistance comparable to MagnaCut by increasing the hardness to 63 HRC or higher.

Corrosion Resistance

Nitro-X7 contains 15% chromium, 0.16% nitrogen, and 0.6% molybdenum, making it a highly corrosion-resistant stainless steel.
With this level of corrosion resistance, it can be used without problems even in marine and coastal areas.
However, rinsing with water after use is still necessary.
